Payette's Packed Black Friday Bonanza
We bundled up and braved the cold last night to check out Payette Brewing Co.'s annual Black Friday dark beer event. This year, Payette hosted the shindig at the site of its future home on 13th and River streets. Since the building is still in the early stages of construction, Payette erected a giant tent in the parking lot and pumped it full of plenty of heat. Tokens cost $4 for one four-ounce pour and you got a free tiny glass with your purchase. All of the extra potent, oi

A Look at New Barrelhouse Barbarian Brewing
Garden City's new barrelhouse, Barbarian Brewing, hosted its grand opening Saturday, Oct. 3. Situated just a few spots down from Crooked Fence's original brewery location, Barbarian specializes in "Belgian- and European-style Sour Ales, Imperial Ales and a variety of other beers that require 2-18 months of aging time in oak barrels or stainless steel vessels." When I approached the stripmall storefront at 5270 Chinden Blvd., Wetos Locos was outside slinging tacos and a crowd

Photos From Edible Idaho's Summer Issue Release Party
To celebrate the release of Edible Idaho's Summer Issue, we hosted a little party Saturday, June 20 at Bier:Thirty in Bown Crossing. For the event, Bier:Thirty created a special Basque menu to coincide with an article I wrote on Basque chorizo and choricero peppers. They also sourced four Idaho-made beers that were profiled in the issue and offered a flight deal: Four, 4 oz. pours for $8. In addition to distributing the new Summer Issue, we also brought out some of our harder

The brand new summer issue of Edible Idaho is available now in restaurants, bars and grocery stores across the state. To celebrate the release of Edible's new issue, we're having a party at Bier:Thirty on Saturday, June 20 from 1-4 p.m. We'll be drinking some cold summer brews pro

The Bench Neighborhood Bar Now Open in Vista Village
A new bar is now open on the Boise Bench fittingly called: The Bench Neighborhood Bar. And the straightforward name couldn't be a more apt descriptor of the simple space. The tiny pub features a long rectangular bar, a few high tables and a couple of TVs playing sports with the volume turned down. When I stopped by to check the place out yesterday afternoon, a few neighborhood residents sat sipping brews and chatting with the bartender. There's no cocktail menu or craft beer

A Peek Inside Prost Boise
It was jam-packed inside Prost! Boise Tuesday night for the grand opening of the German-themed pub. Not only was the Eighth Street-facing patio overflowing at 7 p.m., but the smallish inside space was also elbow-to-elbow, with patrons sloshing beers merrily as they squeezed past one another. Customers sipped on 1L and 0.5L steins of German beer, including classics like Bitburger Pils and Hofbräu Original, along with less familiar brews like Ayinger Celebrator and Grevensteine
