Try a Bavarian Bowl and Take Our Holiday Party Class at the Boise Co-op in Meridian!

The Boise Co-op opened its brand new Meridian outpost back on Nov. 13. It took me a couple of weeks to brave the traffic on Eagle Road to check it out, but I'm sure glad I did. Particularly because I found my new favorite lunch deal: The Bavarian Bowl with house-made weisswurst, sage spaetzle and cabbage salad.

Made from scratch in the deli using a combo of pork and beef, the juicy weisswurst was perfectly salty, with subtle notes of white pepper, dried mustard and coriander. Sliced into coins and pan-seared, the sausage was served on a pile of bouncy house-made spaetzle, flecked with sage and lacquered with butter. The accompanying salad of shaved purple cabbage and matchstick apples had a lovely tartness and crunch that helped off-set the richness of the dish. A zig-zag squeeze of understated house-made mustard tied everything together. And the best part? The hearty bowl only cost $6.99.

Other Bowls From Around the World include the Patagonia Bowl—with Argentinian rice, green chimichurri beef, sweet potato and cilantro—and the Tiki Bowl, with Hawaiian-fried rice, house-made spam, sweet chili sauce and sesame seeds. You can also build your own bowl from 100 percent Organic veggies.

The Co-op's Meridian deli also offers a selection of hand-tossed pizzas, including Roasted Kale with shaved parmesan and Sausage Mushroom, with house-made marinara and house-made sausage.

Located at the North end of the Village at Meridian, alongside Michael's, Babies 'R Us and the Nike Factory Store, the new Boise Co-op has an airy, sun-splashed feel. The store’s layout follows the industry’s “cloud” model, where sections like Dairy, Produce or Meat & Seafood are clustered into separate stations around the store.

Not only is there more room to wheel your cart around—25,000 square feet—but there’s also a window-lined dining area that doubles as a demonstration/classroom space.

And guess what? Alex and I are teaching a class there next Thursday, Dec. 3 through our boutique catering company, Wild Plum Events & Eats!!

Called "Host at Holiday Party Like a Pro," the class will provide tips on timing, menu planning, decorating, appetizer assembly and bar set-up so you’re able to kick up your heels and host a fabulous fête. There will also be awesome snacks and sparkling wine! It only costs $30 for owners and $35 for non-owners and you can sign up here.

Here are a few more shots I took inside the Co-op's new space. Hope to see some of you guys out in Meridian next Thursday at 6 p.m.!
