Keto Friendly Fare in Boise

November 10, 2019

If you're avoiding carbs it can be tough to find filling, grab-and-go options around Boise. When you're in the mood for more than a "chicken caesar, hold the croutons," here are a couple of spots to check out that go above and beyond to cater to the keto diet in the Treasure Valley.

Local First, Nampa

Located in the Nampa Gateway Center, this off-the-beaten path cafe accommodates gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo and keto folks. The turkey club comes loaded with turkey, bacon, greens and mayo on a surprisingly fluffy housemade low-carb bun.

The Local First space is decked out with quirky vintage furniture, hosts regular tea parties and also functions as a food incubator to help grow small- to mid-size local food businesses.

Paddles Up Poke

If you're a raw fish fan, Paddle's Up Poke offers an ocean of fresh options, including tuna, salmon and crab, which you can pile on to a bed of housemade zoodles and top with everything from seaweed salad to masago.

Whether you stick with a classic, like the Bogus Basin bowl loaded with avocado and spicy aioli, or build your own bowl with fixings of your choosing, Paddles Up is an on-the-go low-carb staple, with locations in downtown Boise and Meridian.

Noodles and Co.

This pasta-filled fast casual noodle chain has leaned into alternative diets, by adding zoodles and a new cauliflower-infused rigatoni to their menu. Whether you opt for the Zucchini Truffle Mac—with cheesy, truffle oil coated zoodles, roasted mushrooms and parm—or the Spicy Peanut Sauté, with zoodles in a spicy, peanut sauce with broccoli, snap peas and cabbage, there are plenty of low-carb options to fill you up fast.

Real Phat Foods

While not a restaurant, this Boise-based low carb bread + cracker company offers it's keto-friendly products at both the Albertson's Broadway and Albertson's Market Street locations. Offerings range from grain-free Phat Breads—made with cage-free egg whites and almond flour, which provides an excellent avocado toast base—to Cracked Pepper Phat Crackers that go great slathered with triple cream brie.
