Eat This: Pig and Fig Flatbread at BodoVino

For Mother's Day, BodoVino partnered with nearby Lit & Co. Candles to offer a special package: Make a candle with your mom, then head to BodoVino for a glass of wine, a flatbread and a dessert for $49.

From the dozens of scents available at Lit & Co., my mom and I both opted for the surprisingly manly combo of leather, barnwood and Kentucky bourbon. While we were waiting for our rustic soy candles to set, we grabbed a window-side seat at BodoVino and ordered a couple glasses of wine and two flatbreads in lieu of dessert: The Pig and Fig with prosciutto, fig, dollops of chevre and a heavy-handed balsamic drizzle; and the Chicken Pesto with cremini mushrooms, artichoke hearts and a light sprinkle of parmesan.

Both flatbreads were satisfying, but the Pig and Fig in particular stole my heart. The rectangular flatbread had a super-thin crust with an almost cracker-like crunch. Though I could've handled a little less balsamic drizzle, the flavors were well balanced, with creamy chevre playing off rich bits of chopped prosciutto and the fig adding a seedy hint of sweetness. To make things even more decadent, I crumbled hunks of tangy Humboldt Fog chevre streaked with vegetable ash on top of the flatbread. After another glass of Split Rail's 2014 Rosé Of Touriga Nacional, my mom and I headed back into the Spring sunshine to retrieve our awesomely fragrant candles. Mother's Day win.
